Somehow it feels right that an antiques show should be held in winter rather than summer; I'm not quite sure why. Maybe it is because I imagine centuries-old things coming from cold dark Gothic castles. Of course that is quite far from reality. While armour, swords, and wooden trunks fit into this category, fine floral china might look rather out of place. Still, that setting remains embedded in my mind.
Serious antique collectors are willing to travel long distances to find that special item, and by travel, I don't mean Antiques Roadshow. The Winter Antiques Show is an annual event that takes place in New York City, giving you the chance to mix pleasure with pleasure on a holiday to the Big Apple. Now in its sixty-first year, the show will be held at Park Avenue Armory on 67th Street between the 23rd January - 1st February. That gives plenty of time to plan a trip. Tickets to the show are $25 (£15.65) and will feature seventy-three exhibitors from the US, UK, and Europe, selling antiques from as far back as Ancient Rome to vintage items from the 1960s.
Special events include an opening night party, and a party for young collectors.
