We all enjoy variety in our food, and one of the main attractions for me about Fork on the Road is that it showcases the newest food trucks in Adelaide. When I headed off to Fork at the Races at Morphettville Racecourse I already had a new food truck in my sights.

Spicy chicken wings are something of an addiction for me ever since I got hooked on Morley's spicy wings in South London a decade ago. I've spent a lot of time looking for the best spicy wings in Adelaide, and you can find some awesome wings here .

When Fork on the Road advertised that new food truck The Wingman would be coming to the Morphettville Racecourse I locked in my target and headed out. My first obstacle was the security staff searching all bags on arrival. I assumed they were looking for alcohol, but no - the camera police wanted to ensure that my lens was less than 250mm focal length. No wonder that race audiences have declined severely in number.

After clearing the hurdle I cantered over to my finish line, The Wingman. They were already doing a brisk trade so I quickly ordered my fodder before the crowds arrived. When ordering the ten spicy wings in hot sauce with blue cheese dipping sauce it did sound familiar. I also thought the lovely ladies who served me looked familiar too. I soon discovered why when I looked at the rear of the Wingman Food Truck - it is actually the Cargo Food Van in disguise!

The friendly servers quickly recognised me too, and explained the two food trucks in Adelaide operate independently. The Cargo Food Van caters more to international flavours, while the Wingman will stay (fairly) true to its name. Today's spicy wings came with a choice of three coatings and three dipping sauces, together with some healthy celery. The other menu choice was a tasty Korean fried chicken burger, with ingredients including Asian slaw and miso glazed bacon. It looked positively delicious, but I sadly couldn't manage to eat both.

When my spicy wings arrived they looked awesome, but I'm glad that I grabbed a handful of paper towels as my fingers and face were soon covered in colourful sauce. Funnily enough they tasted just as good as when served by the Cargo Food Van at Elder Park a year ago. Tender American buffalo wings smothered in a not too spicy sauce - yum. For me the blue cheese dipping sauce is a killer touch, together with the crisp celery sticks it complements the other flavours so well.

While chatting to the servers I discovered that curiously they first got the idea for their American style buffalo wings recipe in London. There must be something about London and spicy wings. I can't wait to see what else appears on The Wingman menu after tasting the American buffalo wings twice now. Hopefully they will be back soon to another Fork on the Road with all the other food trucks in Adelaide.

You can find The Wingman on Facebook here , but you may need to be patient for an update as the page has only just launched. Otherwise just wander over to their alter ego at The Cargo Food Van .

Since races were just about to start I wandered to the track to see my first race in person. However I was quickly told that nobody in the crowd is allowed to take photos of the first jumps race - not even with a camera phone. There was no way I was going to wait another 30 minutes for the next race with a ridiculous camera policy like that, so I left immediately - my first horse race virginity intact. Given the growing opposition to jumps racing South Australia it seems the SAJC are getting rather defensive, it will be a long while before I hoof it to Morphettville Racecourse again.
