Acclaimed chef Silas Masih from Denmark restaurant Pepper & Salt will lead a team producing a lunch to celebrate this year's Wine Show of Western Australia.

The lunch, on Friday October 11, in the barrel room at Plantagenet Wines in Mt Barker will feature quality local produce accompanied by superb trophy-winning wines from the awards.

The menu will include a marron entrée, main course will be a choice of Stirling Range beef or a chicken dish, and award-winning wines and beers are included in the $100 ticket price.

Guest speakers for the afternoon are Chief Judge, Samantha Connew and International Judge Singaporean Master of Wine Ying Hsien Tan.

Winners for the 42nd year of the Wine Show of Western Australia will be announced and trophies presented during the lunch which runs from noon to 4.30pm.

The lunch provides an opportunity to mingle with top Western Australian winemakers and friends.

Judging for the awards will take place at Mt Barker from Tuesday, October 8 to Thursday, October 10.

The team of judges will be led by highly experienced Tasmanian winemaker, Samantha Connew, who established her Stargazer winery in Hobart in 2013.

International judge Ying Hsien Tan qualified as the first Singaporean Master of Wine in 2015, one of the first two Asian men in that year to attain the qualification.

What started for Ying as a hobby of tasting and studying wine in 1983 while studying law in the United Kingdom became a career in 2009, when after more than 20 years as a corporate and banking lawyer, he became a wine journalist, speaker and educator.

Highly respected as a wine show judge Ying has been a panel chair at many regional and capital city wine shows and has completed both the Advanced Wine Assessment Course and the Len Evans Tutorial.

Panel Leaders for this year's Wine Show include Courtney Treacher from the Houghton team at Nannup, freelance wine journalist Dave Brookes and Andrew Spinaze, senior winemaker for Tyrells, in the Hunter Valley.

Other judges will include WA winemaker Damian Hutton, and Margaret River winemakers Kate Morgan, Ben Rector, Brendan Carr and Severine Logan.

Sponsors for the show include Portavin, Shire of Plantagenet, Air Liquide, Plasdene Glass Pak, Multi-Color Corporation, Smith Thornton Accountants, Hahn Corporation and Strike Point.

New sponsor, Chinese manufacturer of stainless steel wine tanks, Olavin, will have its tanks on display at Plantagenet during the trophy presentation lunch.

The Wine Show of Western Australia had its beginning in 1978 as part of the Mount Barker and Districts Agricultural Show, but is now a separate annual event which awards the best of WA wines.
