Wine tours aren't just for tourists
Next time you are planning your trip down south to the Margaret River region, why not put a day aside to experience some of the best local produce on offer?
A great way to check out some of the local wineries, including a couple of boutique places you probably haven't heard of before is to jump on a wine tour. There are many different companies to choose from, but if you are after an afternoon which mixes tasting delectable wines and enjoying quality local produce, along with some fun and knowledge along the way, then I highly suggest trying Wine for Dudes.
Wine for Dudes has been in operation since 2003 and is run by a team of fun-loving, wine appreciating locals with a background in the industry and a great approach to their business.
So what can you expect on the day? The tour guide will pick you up from your accommodation (assuming it is within reasonable distance from Margaret River) and you will be taken on a journey to a diverse range of wineries including the large and prestigious as well as the boutique estates.
As the day progresses, you can expect to be doing a lot more than just wine tasting (although there will be plenty of that), you will learn some basic industry fundamentals such as how to taste wine properly, some cool industry lingo, behind the scenes tours and you will even get to take part in some wine blending, to make your own personalised blend.
A scrumptious gourmet lunch is also put on for you and the group, who are quite possibly by now your new best mates; with a tantalising spread of local cheeses, dips, bread and other produce.
The tour guides are fun and friendly with great local and industry knowledge. This would have to be the funkiest wine tour in the region and perfect for all ages (from 18 of course). Their multiple tourism awards are a testament to the unique and memorable experience they offer.
At $95 per person, which is probably the same you would spend on a lunch and a bottle of wine, it is fantastic value and I would highly recommend giving these guys a call next time you are down south. Booking a week in advance is recommended to ensure you don't miss out.
