Wind along the Adelaide coast to excellent wineries
"Hop aboard and Welcome to the Adelaide Wine Coast tour" chirps Steve our guide for the day on the aptly named Wine Coast & Hahndorf Tour.

Swiftly picking up some wine loving companions we are soon heading out of the city towards the Adelaide Hills hugging the coast with spectacular views from Port Norunga to Moana Beach.

Expect to see surf, sand and beachside mansions adjacent to fisherman's cottages as you wind your way along the coast. As we meander towards the valley Steve imparts his local knowledge providing fascinating insights that add to the tour such as European settlers were attracted to the region because of the Mediterranean climate.

Signs announce we are in McLaren Vale country and soon we are heading up a track leading to Fox Creek Winery and seated on the veranda of their charming cottage for our first tasting. Plates of cheese, biscuits tempt us before our genial host Rosalyn offers a taste of the winery's bubbling white Curve - 'Artic Fox'. We are soon treated to an array of whites, Vixen red sparkling, Merlot, Shiraz and the blends of the premium Postmaster Grenache-Shiraz-Mourverde.

Leconfield is our next stop with tastings followed by lunch overlooking the vineyards with their distinctive roses adorning each row. Our Ploughman's lunch matched the wines along with pleasant chit chat from the small group.

Onwards through the Adelaide Hills to Hahndorf with its German influence. We pick up some local produce and another tasting before a stroll down the main street of Hahndorf with its tourist shops, cafes, bakeries and to enjoy a bier or two at one of the German pubs. The menus boast wurst, stews and dumplings to tempt us back another day. A pretzel and a weizen bier will suffice for now before we embark on our minibus for the short trip back to Adelaide.
