What could be more fun than clocking off work and toddle-ing off to a weekly wine appreciation class where you can swill, savour and swirl along with other promising wine aficionados? Below are a handful of wine appreciation courses for you to consider.

Armadale Cellars - Armadale
Armadale Cellars offer a 5 week course that has a structured focus each week to teach you the fundamentals of wine appreciation including sensory evaluation, wine regions and how different winemaking practices influences the end result. Fees are $239 plus $8 booking fee for 5 x 2 hour classes.

CAE Box Hill
The Centre for Adult Education (CAE) run basic wine appreciation courses where you can taste and evaluate up to 24 different wines over 4 sessions. Classes focus on wine selection, taking into consideration regions, grape variety and cellaring. $315 ($299 conc) for 4 x 2.5 hour classes.

Fine Wine Appreciation Carlton
Fine Wine Appreciation's short course combines food and wine at Carlton's La Luna Bistro to give you an informal, holistic learning experience with a maximum class size of 10 participants. $420 includes all food, wine and guidance over 4 x 2 hour classes.

The Humble Tumbler Fitzroy
The Humble Tumbler's Adventures in Food and Wine course caters for up to 12 participants in a relaxed setting. Tasting up to 36 wines over 4 sessions, the course teaches you the fundamentals whilst demystifying wine jargon. Each session includes cheese or charcuterie so that you can get a better understanding of food matching concepts. The course is $300 for 4 x 2 hour classes.

The Wine House Southbank
The Wine House holds mini wine appreciation courses over 3 weeks in Southbank. Tasting 6 wines per session (18 over the short course), Wine House aims to ensure you will never be confused at the bottle shop/cellar door again. Fees are $165 for 3 x 2 hour classes.
