The name Windy Point is renowned for its spectacular view and acclaimed food. This past Tuesday, I went to the Café with relatively high expectations. From the Festival of Food menu, I have already decided on my main. However, I left the venue feeling like I've watched a bad movie. Just because the trailer was good, doesn't mean that the actual movie was worth it. It wasn't bad; it just didn't meet Windy Point expectations.

First of all, being a weeknight, they had less waitressing staff on hand. There were only two waiters, and one bartender who also tripled as a kitchenhand and waiter. They were all very welcoming and friendly but were not as attentive as they could be. I understand that there may be a slight delay in their services during busy times. Usually they would indicate that they have noticed you and would get to when they can. It wasn't the case here. It was at times difficult to even get eye contact, which is substandard.

As we were seated at our table, I noticed that there was already a small dish of olives, which was very organised of them. They tasted great, and was setting the mood, similar to eating popcorn when you've just sat down in the theatre.

The house made ciabatta came out warm and inviting but was not completely cooked all over. There were still uncooked doughy bits in the bread. In comparison to the ciabatta at the River Cafe , this one was also slightly too crusty, making it difficult to bite. The butter is deliciously sweet and smooth with the added pumpkin. But eating the ciabatta was like sitting through the previews - you had to watch it.

The entrée platter had braised mushroom, roast garlic and parsley terrine; crocodile spare rib lemon myrtle and tom yum glaze; and pea and ham hock croquette with mustard. The terrine didn't do anything for me except fill the space in my stomach. I was expecting the garlic, parsley and cheese to hit me with flavour but it was so bland. The terrine took all the moisture out of the mushroom. The lemon myrtle overpowered the crocodile rib. I could hardly taste the tom yum glaze, all I could taste was bitterness. The crocodile rib by itself was appetising; the meat was soft and flavourful. The croquette could have been presented better with the mustard sprinkled on top instead of disappearing down the bottom or sliding halfway down the dish. There was also too much pea in the croquette. Each component of the entrée was like watching filler movie scenes that had no meaning but only made you sit and watch for longer.

For main, I ordered the beef fillet with potato galette, broccolini and black garlic. The meat was soft and cooked well. The potato galette and broccolini were exactly what they are – potato and broccolini. The jus was not outstanding, just average.

The barramundi fared slightly better than the beef. The ingredients worked well with the saffron broth. The flavour was light and soft.

We also ordered battered fish fillets with fries, salad and caper aioli. Again, nothing exciting here. It was basically fish and chips with fancy tartare sauce and rocket salad. The mains provided somewhat the basic storyline for the movie.

The petits fours was oreo marshmallow and white chocolate tonka bean truffle. I'd much prefer the chocolate espresso marshmallow biscotti at the River Cafe than this one although it's simpler. The marshmallow here was chewy but too thick. The white chocolate was dry. There was nothing moist to tie the two components together. In comparison, it was similar to characters in the movie that lacked connection.

Windy Point Café is a like a romantic movie with a relatively interesting storyline, mediocre acting, lacking character building that went on for too long. It's probably better to go there and make out. Well, that's what couples do at lookouts and movie theatres anyway. Same difference.

I will though, go to Windy Point Restaurant for the sequel and see how that goes. I promise to try and refrain from making out.
