As the cost of living pinches our budgets, surging prices and large unexpected expenses are staining most households, many are looking for ways to save money. Buying from the local Thrift Shop has become another easy and fun way to save some dollars, repurpose quality products, and create a new story for an item by joining the circular economy.
The Windsor Road Shop in Brisbane's inner-city suburb of Red Hill offers a chance to do just that.

As the name suggests, the shop is situated in Windsor Road, Red Hill. The adventure starts with following the path off the main road and onto the church grounds to start your seconds shopping experience. The Thrift Shop is situated in a single room located under the main church building of the
Windsor Road Baptist Church .

Passing through the entry gate at 16 Windsor Road Red Hill leads to an outdoor covered verandah with its large range of personal and household items and children's toys neatly on display, The land slopes steeply to the northwest so step carefully. As you walk down the path behind the church towards the shop door, don't forget to glance across to the city and neighbouring views over Red Hill. They are a well-kept surprise.
Inside the main shop is where you will find a large selection of:
Toys for the kids
Fashionable clothes, shoes, hats, bags and accessories
Baby and children's clothes
Practical and decorative homewares
Jewellery

My favourite find was the "dress-ups" rack of special outfits for children which shouts playtime. Costumes for fancy dress and theme days in a range of sizes were sparkling and glittering on the racks.

There is a special book library with a small table, kids' chairs, and pencils where children can sit and draw as well as find their next favourite read. Books are in good condition and very affordable ranging from merely 50 cents to $1.00. There is even a small book nook beside the entry gap with free books. What a bonus!

The shop is small and less crowded than the larger Salvos store on nearby Glenrosa Road. While it does have less stock, it is easier to wander through, and there is less competition for bargain buys.
Change rooms are available to try on your find before you purchase.
About the Church
The pale blue, wooden church with its corrugated roof and maroon trim, which is home to the Thrift Shop, is an interesting building that was constructed in the Victorian Carpenter Gothic style.
The Gingerbread style church was built by George Cooper and designed by John B. Nicholson the Architect for 1200 pounds, including the site.
The main structure was completed in 1888 and the church hall was a later addition built during the
Second World War . Leadlight windows to catch the sun on the sides of the building and elaborately detailed trim.
The main church continues to operate today and holds services each Sunday at 10 am.
