Windows XP 'Bliss' Desktop Theme

With the recent retirement from Window's XP, we no longer have the hilly landscape that served as the default XP desktop background. It was the background around the world to many PCs, perhaps one of the most seen photos. But who took this photo?
It was taken by Charles O'Rear, a former National Geographic photographer. One day as he was travelling from his home in Napa Valley to San Francisco. Whilst he was driving through the idyllic countryside, he decided to take a snap.
Many people thought it had been computer-generated when it hit our screens as wallpaper for Microsoft in 2001. In fact, it was taken on an old film camera in 1998 and it was a few years later that it was purchased by Microsoft. The original photo used an intense colour positive film and wasn't digitally enhanced. Who would have known how far-reaching the pic would go?
Charles never disclosed what he was paid for the photo and Microsoft still own the rights even though it will no longer grace our screen. Want to know more, then check out
