The alchemy of turning steel into beauty
Take a trip back 50 or so years and visit the Willunga Forge to watch the alchemy of a hammer, red hot steel and passion turn in to beautiful pieces of art.
Willunga Forge Workshop
I hear the ring of the hammer striking steel long before I see the workshop tucked away just off the main street. Then I see the red hot glow of the coals. I hear the whoosh of the forge. The hammer strikes the anvil. I smell the acrid scent of the coals. I am transported back to that five year old girl watching my grandfather work in his shed.
From hammer to beautiful steel art
Delicate birds alight on a gate as though they are about to fly away, but wait they can't fly, they are made of steel. The scales on the fish shimmer as though it has just leapt out of the distant sea. Delicate tendrils of steel flowers climb against the wall. This is the magic Peter creates with pieces of metal, heat and his hammer.
Take your kids to see a piece of living history or relive your memories of a distant world. Peter is happy to talk to visitors and will take commissions to work his form of alchemy for you.
