One of the best things about Spring is the fact that the warmer weather allows us to get outside again and start appreciating the world around us. This year, a great way to welcome in the season is by attending the Willoughby Fauna Fair, which is set to be held on the first day of September in Willoughby Park (which also happens to be Father's Day).
This free, annual event offers visitors a great chance to
get educated on the local wildlife and environment of the
Willoughby area. Groups like
Birdlife Australia , the
Frog and Tadpole Study Group (FATS) and the
Herpetological Society will all be on hand with information, and there will even a series of
wildlife displays.
You can also learn about topics closer to home (literally), with information available on subjects focusing on residents' own backyards, including
good bugs and gardening. There will also be
plants for sale.
If you've got a dog, you might want to bring it down and take advantage of the free
dog training and information. If your a cat person instead, you can learn about ensuring your cat is happy at home (so it won't head off into the bush or the neighbour's backyard).
Kids will enjoy activities at the Willoughby Park Centre and there will be various
stalls with prizes too. Parents can explore opportunities to
get involved in their neighbourhood through Bush, Park or Lanecare or the Bushcare Major Day Out, or in
caring for wildlife with Sydney Wildlife or
WIRES . Council staff will also be available to discuss
feral animal control and bushland maintenance.
The fair will run from 10.00am to 3.00pm, which means there's plenty of time to give dad his presents and then head down and check out all the action as a family.
