William Stuart Playground

Published March 30th 2010
Leichhardt Council does not lack parks and playgrounds, with district and foreshore parks spanning the eight suburbs that comprise the municipality.

Over the course of the nearly 140 years that the Municipality of Leichhardt has been in existence, the boundaries have shifted to encompass Annandale and Balmain. But it is a small suburb in the inner west that is the topic of this article.

Lilyfield itself possesses its own array of parks and recreational venues, including Leichhardt Park and Oval. While the Aquatic Centre and West Tigers Stadium might interest adults young and old, there remains the question of how to entertain the younger members of the community.

The William Stuart Playground can be found on Piper Street, Lilyfield. Piper St is a deceptively short drive from Pitt St in Sydney's CBD to the park in Lilyfield.

While there is a children's play area designated within the confines of the park, there are facilities that may attract an older group, including skateboarding facilities and basketball courts. For anyone not interested in clambering over the play equipment, there is the stock-standard provision made for seating, with a grassed area that may be suitable for picnics or reading a book while your children play.
