Balmain the home to many Historic Hotels, Boutiques, Cafes and Bars has another fabulous addition to the small bar scene. Situated on the popular Darling Street inside the historic working man's institute is Wilhelmina's Liquid and Larder just opening early October. They serve not only spectacular drinks but delights for the foodies as well.
It's the creation of Bar gurus Warren Burns and James Bradey, who are also owners of Grandma's, The Irish and The Wild Rover. You can see they have waved their wand over this small space making a noticeable entrance into the Balmain bar scene. But this new venue is not just a bar that offers snacks. They have brought on MasterChef contestant Jamie Fleming who has created a simple menu using Australian produce focusing on the freshest seasonal ingredients to enhance the flavours.
On entering the bar you find yourself caught in a kaleidoscope of colour illuminating from the main wall. Artist Anya Brock has painted an eye catching mural as the focal point in the bar's design. Her use of bold black strokes shaded with colour creating one of her trademark faces exudes energy and vitality to this small space. Sexy black ceramic tiles cover the bar but the coolness is contrasted with warm timber pieces, hanging planters and the popular exposed edison light bulbs shedding flattering amber light.
The first section is decked out with high timber topped bench tables and stools. A cosy alcove with a low banquette lounge and throw cushions invites you to settle in for a few cocktails and graze off a tasty share plate with your friends.
A simple bar list but not without imagination. This Christmas drink was created by Bar Manager Daniel and Chef Jamie. Quite a delight for the eyes and taste buds.

The casual atmosphere here is all about chilling with your friends enjoying a drink and good food. Reggae tunes add to the relaxed vibe. The volume a soothing background encouraging conversation unlike some of the other bars and more rowdy hotels of Balmain where you have to yell to be heard.
This new venue is definitely worth a visit. Offering a chilled night with friends or a warm up for further partying on at the popular Unity Hall Hotel located further down on Darling Street. Unity Hall offers live music and dancing from 9pm weekends.
