Unprocessed ingredients, locally sourced produce, healthy hand-made snacks, nutritious takeaway meals and a selection of smoothies, salads and sweet stuff - Wilde Kitchen ticks a lot of boxes for diners who are health and fitness conscious, but nevertheless wish to tickle their tastebuds.
Ensconced on the corner of Macquarie and Florence Streets in Teneriffe, in the space that paleo diner Primal Pantry used to occupy, Wilde Kitchen is a veritable haven of healthfulness, with just enough caffeinated options to appeal to those who seek to supercharge their day with something more than coconut water or chia seeds.
Starting from 7am, breakfast options include protein pancakes, sauteed greens with avocado and almond butter, savoury waffles and wild rice kedgeree. From midday onwards, healthy and substantial lunches swing into action, such as duck pancake with spring pea salad and sticky sauce, paleo fried chicken on cauliflower, pomegranate and pumpkin salad, and the mouth-watering Moreton Bay bug burger with avocado and cress.
All-day items also feature on the menu. Of these, one of the most popular, judging by the sheer volume of orders emerging from the kitchen, is Wilde Kitchen's smoothie bowls. Choose from options like the green smoothie bowl (with fresh berries and muesli crumb), the choc peanut butter cup (with peanut butter cups and nut crumble) or the coconut berry bowl (with fresh berries and raw coconut ice).
On the day I visited, there was also a smoothie bowl special dubbed the red velvet (with brownie crumb and fresh raspberries) on offer, and the divine-sounding gingerbread skillet with caramelised pears, vanilla coconut cream and praline. Healing broths, health-tonic shots, smoothies and coffee from Wolff Coffee Roasters are additional all-day items.
