Perth Wildcats is a professional basketball team that has had its fair share of ups and downs. Between 2000 and 2007, the Wildcats lost a lot of its coverage and hence a lot of sponsorship. Players eventually left to play overseas. In a bid to increase their name within the Perth Community, the Perth Wildcats decided to adopt a different approach winning back the hearts of their supporters.

The Wildcats Inspire program is focused on encouraging kids to attend school and strive to be the best they can be in their academics. It is definitely not a show up and play program. Instead, it is a program where 12 schools are selected in the lower socio-economic sector and 50 children from each of the schools are selected to partake in the program.

The Wildcats visit the 12 schools over a number of weeks, helping kids not only on the court, but off the court as well. This is ultimately, what sport really should be about. It is about bringing balance between sports and everyday life because we all know that sport does not always last a lifetime in a buddy sports stars life.

The Perth Wildcats made the final debut after weeks of working with the North Balga Primary school in a game of "the kids" against "the cats". The excitement of this game had been building up over weeks, and all primary school kids were enthusiastic to take this team on.

Perth Wildcat members played their game very well with even taking on one of "the kids" as one of their substitutes. It was amazing to see how, for a moment, a whole school came together cheering both sides on. Ultimately, this is what sports should be about, and was one of the objectives set out by the Olympics. If only the AFL (Australian Football League), and other professional sports, could follow in the same steps.

As for the final result, do we really need to know? I would have to say that the North Balga Primary school would probably be the winners by far. However, the results are unknown, and I believe that is the best way to finish a great game.
