Wild Horse Mountain stands out against the skyline as one drives north on the highway just outside of Caboolture. We knew there was a walking track up to the tower and vowed that one day we would do that climb.

Wild Horse Mountain stands 123m above sea level and was named after the brumbies who once ran free and wild in this area.

We were heading for a long-weekend at Mudjimba. Unexpectedly my husband turned off the highway and I wondered why. A sign post soon satisfied my curiosity. There is a car park at the base but be sure to lock your vehicle securely as it is quite remote.

Wild Horse Mountain lookout is provided by Telstra and the Dept of Primary Industries (Forestry) who jointly have provided a wonderful and informative viewing platform.

There is a concrete path stretching 700m uphill to the Lookout. It didn't look too difficult but once the walk began we realized just how steep as the track virtually goes straight up with no bends. Echoing in my ears were words from my kids that this senior citizen wouldn't make it to the top. Tempting as it was to stop and retreat determination to succeed was stronger and we persevered.

We were not to be disappointed. The 360 degree panorama stretching before us was breathtaking. A clear, crisp June morning meant even the Brisbane city skyline was faintly visible way off in the distance.

The forest stretched below as a sea of green. Even rising smoke from a bush fire or burn-off in the forest below couldn't spoil the majestic views.

The Glasshouse Mountains with their unique shapes stood tall and proud across the landscape. This was a walk which will be remembered not just for the achievement factor but the beauty of this wonderful country I am proud to call home.
