Home birth education makes the right choice for families
When my mother had me, there was no such thing as fathers coming into the delivery room or for that matter even waiting outside; let alone parents having the choice of how they want their child delivered. It was just the one option, in the hospital ward with the nurses and the doctor. Obviously, things have changed dramatically since then.

Homebirth Queensland Inc is hosting a film night with questions and answers at the New Farm Cinema on Saturday 10th September 2016. The movie is titled "Why Not Home?" and cost of the evening is $20.25 per person if you purchase your tickets online or $30.00 per person at the door. Doors to the cinema open at 6.00pm.

Many women are now opting to return to what their ancestors did eons ago and have home births. Of course, medical awareness and techniques are far more advanced today. Women feel safe and relaxed at home in familiar surroundings and also have the added bonus of all family able to be present when the birth takes place.

Doctors, midwives and nurses are now also in the growing number people choosing to opt for home births. The film follows the life stories of two women who choose to go outside the hospitals. Their stories will educate the viewer in the beauty and challenges facing each family who take the decision seriously about the choice of home births versus hospital births. Dr Sarah Buckley, who is the author of the best-selling book, Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering, hopes to inspire discussion after the film.

The New Farm Cinema is situated at 701 Brunswick Street, New Farm.
