Sunday brunches are a reasonably regular event for my partner, Dave, and me. Feeling a little peckish on a recent Sunday morning, it seemed like fate when a discount voucher appeared in my email box for a local cafe. I didn't know of the existence of before seeing that email. A quick bit of research revealed that it was formerly known as 'Liquido Cafe', but had just undergone a bit of a refresh/rebranding; same owner, same staff, same (reportedly excellent) coffee, different menu.

Who's Harry describes itself as 'an ambient and friendly cafe in Hawthorn serving all day breakfast and lunches as well as the distinctive blend of di Manfredi coffees'.

Walking into the cafe, the counter is to the left, while to the right, there is a room with perhaps six or so tables with the view out to the street through a large window. The room is light filled, pleasant and the decor a little rustic. Immediately behind that room is another room, filled with a single large table - perfect for groups (or as a share table).

What I didn't realise until later was that had I walked past the counter and down the corridor to the left, I'd have discovered other rooms/alcoves, offering quieter, perhaps more intimate dining opportunities. Out the back, there is a sizeable courtyard covered in part by shade sails.

The staff seemed slightly flustered when we arrived, no-one looked up to greet us as we walked in, so we showed ourselves to a table in the front room. However, after that initial glitch, the service improved, and we were quickly provided with menus and water, and offered coffees.

Who's Harry offers all day breakfast, every day, and lunch from 11.30am until 2.00pm. You will find all the standard fare on the breakfast menu - eggs any way ($8.50), toast (various breads, $7.00-$7.50), house made baked beans ($14.50) and Harry's Benedict ($15.50). Less standard are the corn fritters ($16.00), or the breakfast bruschetta (rye toast with smashed avocado, thyme infused field mushrooms and Danish feta with balsamic glaze - $16.00).

There are just five options on the menu for lunch, including roast pumpkin salad ($16.50) and fish and chips ($18.50).

I opted for simple fare for brunch - scrambled eggs ($8.50) with avocado and bacon sides ($4.00 each). Dave chose Creamy Dill & Chive Scrambled Eggs (served on a toasted English muffin, with smoked salmon, rocket and dukkah) - $17.50.

The food was well prepared, including my bacon (I'd asked for it to be crispy and it was!). The portion sizes were generous (in a good way!) Dave powered through his scramble and commented on the great creamy texture and slight hint of spiciness from the dukkah. The presentation of my dish was perhaps a little rustic, but I could overlook that given the standard of the food.

The coffee was excellent, and I really liked their coffee cups/mugs.

Overall, we had a good experience at Who's Harry and would happily return.

Who's Harry is located at 81-83 Church Street, Hawthorn, and is open 7 days for breakfast and lunch. There is a reasonable amount of street parking nearby, or the number 48 (North Balwyn) tram runs right past the cafe.

My only disappointment is that I left without learning the answer to the question - who IS Harry?
