For people who, for any reason, want to think in terms of authorship rather than a particular novel, I'm asking about who is your favourite romance (novel) author?
It's a popular genre, hence authorship is ultimately quite lucrative and respected. So, for those interested in reputable stats about romance books, according to Nielsen (USA version), in 2015 the romance genre was 29 per cent of the market - hence the genre alone is worth nearly a third of the entire American fiction market! Authorship involves much admirable ability and specialisation to retain such a following - a statement I feel the above stat sufficiently supports, even though sales have likely soared since the pandemic. Acknowledging that book sales are hard to measure, there is only Nielsen Bookscan as a serious poll according to Harvard Library . However, I feel 29 per cent of the American fiction market in 2015 is still quite a powerful stat - because it was direct from a Nielsen media release whilst showing romance is a lucrative genre within the realm of a very large (American) fiction market. Thus it is easy to see why one can have a favourite romance author albeit several - as well as for particular subgenres.
Authors listed in the Top 10 Greatest Romance Authors of All Time by famousauthors.org are surely in the running to be an answer to this question, but, as the market is in fact diverse, by all means, use the answer box as a chance to suggest a favourite author even if they are up-and-coming or why they do such a great job. For those interested but not fully familiar with this topic, yes, it's virtually common knowledge that the market share of female readers is much higher than male readers and there are much more best-selling female authors than male authors. There are many possible well-known authors to use as an answer, for example, although there is some misunderstanding about her contribution to the romance genre, Jane Austen is a household name from 18th and 19th century England, and Nora Roberts, Judith McNaught along with Julie Garwood are contemporary best-selling romance writers, with all these writers possible answers to the question. It's also interesting to contemplate my WeekendNotes question article What Makes a Good Writer in terms of romance writing as well as for all other genres.
So this is a chance to share who entertains along with who affects the most and who is the most skillful novelist, that is, who is your favorite romance author?
