All horses riders need to read this

Did you know that Whiteman Park has an open horse riding area that can be used with the purchase of an annual bridle permit? I didn't!

Horse owners can purchase an annual permit that allows them to ride in this designated area which is only for horses. You will not stumble upon any dog walkers that may spook your horse. This is brilliant. The area is over 215 hectares and includes small woodlands but is mainly open cleared pastures.

The bridle area is not accessible from the main entrance on Lord Street. It is accessed from Woollcott Avenue off Lord Street. So with the main entrance on your left, you need to continue past this to the next driveway on the left. It is an unsealed lime gravel road. To access the area you need a key for the gate (a refundable $50 deposit is required for the key hire) and you are responsible for closing and locking the gates after entry or exiting the area. Parking is obviously available that is safe and not obstructing any other vehicle.

Riders are asked to check and clean their animals (particularly hooves), clothing and vehicles on arrival to remove any vegetation and seeds prior to entering the riding area to help minimise the spread of weeds. Some weeds propagate and take hold really quick which may result in reduced access for riding if the weeds get out of control.

The permits expire 30th June each year and cost just $60.00 including GST. To find out more information, call the friendly staff at Whiteman Park or you can download the Bridle Permit Application form by clicking here.

A map is available and the Term and Conditions of the permit is available here.

Happy riding everyone!
