A leisurely Sunday morning stroll to the Eagle Farm Markets had us stumbling past WhiteJam, a sweet café on Zillman Road, Hendra. Don't let the petite shop front fool you. As you walk in you are greeted with smiling faces, the smell of coffee wafting through the air and freshly toasted fruit loaf.
A homely, welcoming and laid back cafe, you can choose between indoor or outdoor seating (you can even bring your furry friend as they have 'dog parking' at the back). The outdoor area, complete with artificial grass, lawn umbrellas and a variety of tables in all sorts of shapes and sizes, is definitely a backyard home away from home. Inside you'll find a collection of magazines and books to swoon over and a few gift items for sale. A perfect setting for a catch up with friends or that morning treat of coffee and freshly baked muffin whilst reading the daily news.
On this occasion, as tempting as the sweet indulgences in the cabinet seemed, I showed restraint and opted for a flat white ($4.50). A simple gesture of a 'Lotus' caramelised biscuit on the side was enough to make me smile. I love the idea of offering something small with a coffee – definitely a 'talking point' and one that here at White Jam is done well. And will have me returning time and time again.
They offer a simple menu each day of the week (from 6am until 1pm during the week and until noon on weekends). Perfect for that before work coffee stop in the burbs to a relaxing weekend morning pilgrimage.
