The bistro has changed owners and is now called Taylor's Bistro.
Family friendly dining & a big children's playground
The White Sands Bistro is located inside the family-friendly Soldiers Bay Bowling Club, in the beautiful Port Stephens region. It is popular with locals because of its live music, lawn bowls, delicious meals and also the kid's playground outside the bistro, which attracts kids from all around the area. The locals aren't the only ones who get to enjoy this modern facility however, as tourists flock to it each night from local hotels and caravan parks, including the BIG4 Ingenia Holiday Park Soldiers Point next door. The result is a vibrant, bustling bistro full of happy people with slightly sunburnt faces, an abundance of holiday vibes and giggling children running around and playing outside on the playground. If you are looking for a fun place to take the kids for dinner this Saturday night, this venue has it all.
A family friendly night out at the Soldiers Point Bowling Club
The décor inside the White Sands Bistro is relaxed, modern and fresh, with round ornate lights hanging from the ceiling and large tables for big families and larger groups. Our family have now visited this club a few times and each time we have been impressed with the holiday ambience and the delicious and varied menu - it is worth going back for time and time again. The first time we visited, we ordered Vegetarian Pizza and Caesar Salad to share and we loved it so much, we ordered the exact same thing the second time we went back. In true family style, our daughter also ordered the kids Spaghetti Bolognaise on our first visit and raved about it so much, she was quick to order it the next time as well!
Modern and fresh decor inside, with a large area for dining...
The Vegetarian Pizza hit the spot after a big day out exploring the area, with a delicious combination of pesto, roasted sweet potato, spinach, pine nuts and fetta. At just $16, it was a good size to share between two people. We decided to also share a Caesar Salad ($17) and it was the perfect combination - the flavour, crunch and freshness of the salad was the perfect accompaniment to the subtle flavours of the pizza. Our daughter was equally as happy with her bolognaise and described the meat flavour as particularly yummy!
On our last visit, we dared to try something new - the Grilled Barramundi Fillet with Lemon Butter Sauce and the Prawn, Avocado & Mango Salad with white balsamic and honey dressing. They were both equally as mouth-watering with fresh and light flavours, good serving sizes and flavour combinations which went perfectly together. White Sands Bistro is one of those places where it doesn't matter what you choose on the menu, it will make you say "Wow, this is nice!" Paired with a cold white wine or a chilled beer from the bar, and you have a meal that you will be talking about for long after you've gone.

If you have kids, the outdoor playground area is like a magnet for them, with kids of all ages having a play together before and after their meals. The playground itself is undercover and there is a grassy area to run around and play chasings with friends, or new friends just made. This area is also popular with local children for birthday parties, in quieter times.
On our last visit in the school holidays, we happened to arrive during a free Kids Disco, which had girls in pretty dresses and boys with spiked hair having a boogie on the dance floor. Mums and Dads also seemed more than happy to sit around the outside and watch, as the music was a good combination of the latest party hits and the occasional disco classics. See here for future events.
With so much to eat, see and do at Soldiers Point Bowling Club, why don't you check it out tonight, or this weekend? You are guaranteed to leave with tired and happy kids!
