White Night is back, ready to take over each city for one night each only in Bendigo (Sat 3 Sep 2022 from 7pm-1am) and Geelong (Sat 8 Oct 2022 from 7pm-1am). Colourful projections, installations, music, food, pop-up dance floors and more can be expected to entertain and delight the whole family.

Iconic Victorian streetscapes will transform Bendigo, while Geelong will have the city aglow from Johnstone Park to the waterfront which sits under the gaze of 'The Guardian'. This year, in acknowledgement of the Dja Dja Wurrung and Wadawurrung peoples' deep connection to Country, artists respond to the theme 'Everything on the land is reflected in the sky', which speaks to First Nations astronomy and the belief that the stories of the land are mirrored in the stars. Head to the website and see here for the full program in Bendigo, and Geelong. If you're keen, you can drive to both locations and enjoy both White Nights and double the fun.

Unplugged

Marvel at the radiant projects from 'The Electric Canvas' in both places as they bathe the city in colour and light and look out for stunning work of local First Nations artists Troy Firebrace and Natasha Carter in Bendigo and Billy Jay O'Toole, Kait James and Jenna Oldaker in Geelong. 'Unplugged', a giant inflated silver brain in both cities is a world-premiere from 'Airena'. Be intrigued as neurons pulse across its shiny surface, and take a moment to unplug.

Geelong will afford you a front row view of a car getting crushed into a cube to none less than a blistering live rock soundtrack. Now that's different! Heavy Metal, produced by White Night creative director 'Jof Makes Art', honours Geelong's love of rock music and cars. The Guardian will also reside in both cities; a mythical, golden beast, made by 'A Blanck Canvas', cuts an imposing figure but illuminates all in its path. Be sure to stay in touch with White Night's Facebook page for updates and other content.

When in Bendigo, follow the link to plan your night in regard to parking, transport, program map and so on. Perhaps you'll make a weekend of it to explore all that's happening in Bendigo after a hard night of partying at White Night, and have a casual Sunday discovering the place. Be sure to scour the program for cabaret in a tram, music events, films, and more or simply venture down the secluded pathway to the Yi Yuan Gardens and find a hidden oasis where traditional and contemporary Chinese music plays.

Geelong offers the same but different in installations, projections, performances, films and more. Discover the Geelong Gallery after hours as it comes alive during the City's White Night Event. You'll find plastic recycled and put to good use in the Steampacket Gardens filled with an immersive garden of glowing flowers made from said recycled plastic. This area was designed to be a calm space for all ages. Walk the labyrinth or sit on the illuminated benches and listen to the gentle soundscape. Listen closely and you might hear the flowers sigh, yawn or sound like a buzzing bee. There's so much to discover, you best start making your itinerary and map out all you want to experience so you don't miss out on a thing.
