White House Down starts off somewhat slow. You know something is going to happen to the White House (the title gives that away), you just don't know when. Before you know it, you are drawn into a movie of action and drama.

John Cale (Channing Tatum), who is on protective detail for Head of Presidential detail Martin Walker (James Wood), organised an interview with the Secret Service. As the interview was at the White House, he organised another pass for his daughter, Emily (Joey King). Emily is smitten with the President and everything to do with American politics.
A story line similar to Die Hard! (photo courtesy of whitehousedown.com)
Of course, the movie begins to pick up tension when Emily is separated from her father at the same time the White House is infiltrated by terrorists. John, being the only 'agent' left, starts to take out the terrorists one by one in order to rescue his daughter.
White House Down reminds me a lot of Die Hard. It has all those action qualities that include the villain, the hero and a 'damsel' in distress. Of course, like Die Hard, this movie also has some drama and humour thrown in the mix.
Just a little bit of Die Hard in the mix
This movie is one for both boys and girls. It has the elements of 'all things get blown up' versus gorgeous actors that show that emotional side.
If you looking for a no brainer filled with loads of action, this would probably be the best pick. I would give this movie at least 3.5 stars out of 5. The reason it did not get full marks was that story did stretch near the latter parts of the movie, where you wanted to use the fast forward option if you had one.
