In case you do not know what White Hackers are, watch some westerns. In case you do not know what Facebook, Tinder or Tweeter are, count yourself among extinct species.

If you do know what all of those words mean, but still can function in the real reality and can even laugh at yourself, brace the cold of Melbourne nights and hurry to La Mama Theatre in Carlton.

From 26 June to 1 July, La Mama presents White Hat Hackers by Ella Filar's Krows Bar Kabaret.

The show starts off quite scary and miserable: a lonely man one-on-one with the net. The system crashes and burns around him. The man is inconsolable. He tries all he can to get out but fails. Four mystery figures and a voice from up above come to the man's rescue.

The recovery program is painful, funny, ridiculous and disgustingly sarcastic. The program and helpers take the audience through many steps of recovery singing out loud various bits of the man's biography: failures, wrong choices, nostalgia and loses.

Does the man repent? You have to come and see.

This is the Kabaret. This is a modern-day fairy-tale musical that hits too close to the motherboard of almost anyone in the audience.

Are we this poor man or the voice from up above?

These shenanigans are on at La Mama Theatre at the Courthouse, 289 Drummond Street, Carlton. Tickets are $30 and $20 concession. The bar is open pre and post-show
