The Exclusivity of a Locked Door
There are clubs in New York that are so totally exclusive that the door remains locked and you need to ring a doorbell to gain access.

Whistler's Chocolate Factory outlet in Belmont is a bit like that, except they probably don't care what you're wearing and if you break into Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' there's every chance you might get kicked out.

Behind the locked door is a world of chocolate

Whistler's is Perth's oldest chocolate company. You have probably seen their goodies for sale at your local IGA, and the crowds that flock to the Whistler's stand at the Royal Show every year are testament to their popularity.

They have also recently opened a showroom in the Swan Valley, but did you know they have a factory outlet in Belmont that is open to the public Thursday and Fridays?

Factory Outlets bring to mind rummage sales, hideous fluoro lighting and dodgy products, but the Whistlers outlet is all class.

With free parking out the front, the lighting is dimmed (best for chocolates and also for women of a certain age), and the huge range of chocolates is displayed beautifully on their classic wooden shelves.

The $30 mixed gourmet hamper

All the favourites are on sale including the rocky road slabs, chocolate covered nougat, honeycomb and chocolate bark. You can also buy things not available in the stores such as gourmet mixed platters and hampers which could come in handy come Christmas. You can also buy these online.

Like all good chocolate shops, there are free samples to try and I happily at a piece of chocolate covered Turkish delight while my three year old got her teeth into a chocolate covered lolly snake.

The lovely lady behind the counter also popped a free chocolate Freckle into the bag for my daughter, which she tucked into very happily on the way home.

Purchases made, one more wistful glance around the room and we walked back out into the glare of the sun. We put on our sunglasses like rock stars and the door was locked behind us.
