Offering free and low-cost community activities across the Sunshine Coast region, Sunshine Coast Council is once again inviting local Sunshine Coasters to participate in a range of activities, with the ultimate goal of enhancing personal fitness and invigorating your life.

One of the Group Fitness categories for Healthy Sunshine Coast , is the amazing five-kilometre timed parkrun. This global community running phenomenon is open to everyone, from the young to the not-so-young and even more appealing, is that every parkrun is absolutely FREE.

Every Saturday morning, somewhere in the world a parkrun is organised from a local park and is supervised entirely by volunteers … people who love running.

How parkrun works

The key to parkrun's success is all in the timing technology. Runners register online and then print a barcode that is scanned at the end of each session. This is then matched with the runner's finishing time. All the results are posted online by midday, so runners can compare their performance with their friends' times and against their own previous times.

Most of the parkrun events have more than one hundred runners and walkers every week. Parkrun is suitable for any age and any ability - I hear tell the oldest member is over 90! What I particularly love, is that there is no need to run, participants can walk the course and prams and dogs are also welcome. How awesome is that! For more information about parkrun or to register before your very first run, visit parkrun Australia here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it cost to join in?

Nothing, zilch, it's free and gratis! Please remember to register before your very first run, no matter where you are in the world. Walkers/runners only ever have to register the one time - the printed barcode is required as proof of registration. If you forget to register, you won't get a time!

How fast do I have to be?

Most walkers/runners run for fun, so whether you lope like a giraffe or prefer the laid-back pace of the proverbial tortoise, everybody is welcome - no competition, it's you against the clock!

Parkruns are friendly too - every week participants are invited to a post-run coffee in one of the local cafe's, details of the venue are usually provided during the pre-run brief. If you are new to the Sunshine Coast region (or holidaying here) and looking to expand your social base or perhaps just wanting to improve your fitness levels, the weekly FREE five-kilometre timed parkrun is a great way to get into it.

Dust off those running shoes and let's get fit! Where is your favourite parkrun on the Sunshine Coast?
