Go back 10 years and peruse your liquor cabinet and chances are your gin is from England, your rum from the Caribbean, and your vodka from Eastern Europe. These days there's a chance you've got a bottle of gin from Manly or a bottle of whiskey from Tasmania as more and more boutique distilleries pop up around the country. Sydney, and surrounding regions, are home to more than a handful, but unless you're amassing a collection choosing where to stock up is no easy feat.

If you've sampled a tipple at some of Sydney's boutique distilleries, which one was your favourite? Where's the best spot for a dry gin? Or which distillery produces the most creative blend. Here's a few suggestions to help you pick your favourites.

Archie Rose claims to be Sydney's first distillery since 1853 and their Rosebery distillery produces whiskey, gin, vodka, and other special release spirits. Archie Rose opened in 2014. While whiskey was on the cards from the beginning, it's a spirit that takes time and Archie Rose produced their first bottle in 2018. Their single malt is due to be released this year. As well as sampling their spirits or picking up a bottle or two, Archie Rose also has a bar where you can enjoy specialty cocktails, unreleased varieties and a range of craft beers.

Not quite in Sydney, but certainly worth the drive, Distillery Botanica captures the essence of a bottle of gin. Owned by a herbalist and set amongst 3 acres of lush greenery and gardens, you feel like you're amongst a forest of the aromatics that gin is so well known for. Distillery Botanica produce a collection of gins and a range of other liqueurs including a native lemon myrtle liqueur.

Back closer to home is Manly Spirits Co. Close to Sydney's Northern Beaches, Manly Spirits Co claim to capture the joining of Manly's chilled coastal lifestyle with Sydney's chic metropolitan charm. They produce gins, vodkas and whiskeys. You can learn more about production through a distillery tour or sample their wares at the tasting bar.

This is just a handful of the growing number of distilleries you can visit in Sydney or further afield in New South Wales. Perhaps you've tried some others you think are even better? We want your opinions on Sydney's best distilleries. Who has the best vibe? What's your favourite drop? Let us know in the comments and help us find Sydney's best.
