Where to get Biltong in Perth

Perth is home to many different nationalities which means we have a very diverse range of food on offer. One of the largest foreign populations in Perth are the South Africans and they've bought one of the best foods of them all across the Indian Ocean.
So where are the best places to Get Biltong and Jerky around Perth? Supermarkets stock well known brands such as Roadkill, Bullbar and Lekker, but any dried meat fan will be quick to tell you these are far from the real deal. Here are four places that always come with high regard.
The Biltong Shop
Plaza Arcade, Perth City.
These guys have managed to turn the humble Biltong into a wide range, enough to warrant a whole shop devoted to it. They have everything from hot and fatty to lean and chewy. The store boasts both the leanest and most fatty Biltong in Perth, as well as a variety of different spices and tenderness.
This means no Biltong fan will leave the store saying "not enough fat" or "too chewy", as every style imaginable is on offer. Prices aren't too bad either considering how much effort they must go to to make such a wide range.
My favourite here is the peri peri style. It is also great to see some food stores still appreciate the amazing flavour fat adds to a meal, and the pepper are perfectly strong without being too overpowering. Perfect!
Mufasa Biltong Deli
3/10 Chesapeake way, Currambine.
Like African Heritage, Mufasa Deli is a South African specialty shop made for the large number of ex-pats in the area. They carry a range of South African meats including boerewors, oxtail and skilpadjies.
The Biltong here is decently priced around $55p/kg and there is enough choice to suit everyone. The most interesting variety here is the thin chilli/garlic bites, or perhaps you could try shredded biltong - they claim it goes very well with Vegemite ...
Conways Butchery
1/328 Orrong rd, Welshpool.
Conways is known as the biggest African meat supplier in Perth. They stock some pretty big names including the famed
Mrs. Balls Chutney , claimed by many to be the best in the world.
Their range of Biltong is far smaller than the other three places, but the quality is exceptional. The spicy Biltong and Droewors have been an ever popular mainstay here for the last thirty years, and upon tasting you can easily see why!
There is also
African Heritage . The Duncraig shop recently closed down but last I checked the on in Clarkson (5 Ebb Way) was still around and operating. African Heritage is much the same as Mufasa in that it solely caters for those hard to find Zimbabwean and South African products for the large ex-pat population.
Of course, the various weekend markets in Malaga, Wanneroo, Fremantle etc. all have their own traditional African food vendors on site too. You can also try making your own with beef, kangaroo or any other red meat. Anything to enjoy one of Africa's favourite exports right!?
