My mission is to get to the bottom of this undies dilemma. I quickly realised how little I knew about the extensive range of undies available. It's downright confusing enough to resort to the hold 'em in Bridget Jones style – the ones that go all the way up!
It annoys me that women have to make so many impossible decisions and are sometimes so ill equipped. So to simplify this task for you I've created my own categories.
Just for fun
Sexy and make a fashion statement. These can involve, lace, fluff, frills, zips, jewels, ribbons and feathers and a whole lot of other things not traditionally associated with underwear. See the largest on-line

Most come with corsets, body stockings and bustiers.
Gee wizG-strings now come in variations. The V strings which are a bit wider at the back. I have also put the cheeky cut in this category. It's in between a brief and a high cut. Fair dinkem.
Victoria Secret offers a range of these at very reasonable prices.
When comfort mattersThey can be a bit jazzier than the old cotton tales because of the colours and fabrics. They have coverage in the front and the back – not to be taken for granted in all undies. The way I look at it is I don't want bulges in places where they are not meant to be. I hope this doesn't sound like sour size 18 grapes but I don't think g strings ever look good (on me) but they look better than they feel. See

Firm, fix and flatterThese are aka control wear and I have it on good authority that they 'control everything'. They can be high waisted to the bra, with or without boning (unfortunate description). A range called Hold me tight can be purchased at
Big W for as little as $14. Before these were popular I referred to them as Granny panties.
Damned if I know where French cut, Brazilian cut and boy leg fit in. All I know about these is that if you have a flat rear boy legs slip down under dresses. Don't ask me how I am so knowledgably about these.
For some bargains try

My inside source from
BNT, Greensborough told me that the most popular undies are seam free closely followed by laces… not so helpful because these seem to come in all styles.
Women let's unite and talk command of the situation. Remember the burn your bra era… maybe not. We could start a new movement, "au naturel" or "commando style" one that takes them down. My only suggestion is not to try this on a windy day when you are wearing a short skirt to the school fete.
The bottom line is that there is a pair of undies for pretty much every occasion but don't confuse style and comfort. Sort out your needs and priorities. Unfortunately a bit of foresight is required. I reckon I could need several pairs just in one day.
My undercover, underwear soul crushing research was a sacrifice for the women of Melbourne. This important field study was also a reality check- bummer for me!
