As a Kiwi, I am forever promoting all things "Kiwiana" and food is no exception. One of my favourite foods is the Kiwi hotdog which is basically a battered sausage on a stick and covered in tomato sauce! Pretty much a heart attack on a stick but I can guarantee it will be the best heart attack you've ever eaten!



If you would like to try a delicious Kiwi hotdog for yourself without having to fork out $1600 for a return airfare to New Zealand, here are a few fish and chip shops in Perth that sell them:

Southland Fish and Chips - Located in Willetton, their menu is considered more "British" but you will find Kiwi hotdogs here for $4.20. They seem to sell all kinds of fascinating things like battered marinated eggs, haggis, black pudding and of course mushy peas.

Having just recently celebrated their 20th anniversary, Kiwi Fish & Chips in Dianella is another option for a Kiwi hotdog at $3.50 apiece. They also sell other NZ products, most notably L&P – only the best soft drink in the universe! According to their Facebook page, they sold over 1900 hotdogs in 3 days back in February so they must be pretty good!

Success Junction Fish and Chips also sell Kiwi hotdogs for $3.50. Additionally, they have some good valued packs such as the "Family Pack" where $49 gives you 4x fish, 4x squid rings, 4x chicken nuggets, 4x pineapple fritters and $6 chips.

RJ Oceanview Takeaways in Rockingham have hotdogs available for $4. They have a very extensive menu with plenty of burger options and lots of good old Kiwi classic cuisines such as raw fish, cream paua (abalone), hangi (a method of cooking food in a pit oven, although they probably use a steamer here in Perth), kina (sea urchin) and fry bread.

So there you have it! If you're a Kiwi craving for a taste of home or perhaps you're just curious to hear what all the fuss is about New Zealand food, then pay some of the above places a visit and definitely try out a Kiwi hotdog. You will not be disappointed!
