The tradition of decorating our homes for the Christmas season goes back a long, long way. In many parts of pre-Christian Europe, people would decorate their homes with bits of greenery and hang boughs of holly and mistletoe about to celebrate their midwinter festivals. When the Christian Church took over and turned these midwinter celebrations into Christmas, it adopted these decorating ideas. Today, we continue to decorate our homes for Christmas-though the bits of greenery we use to deck our halls these days are more likely to be made out of plastic rather than being the real thing!

MYER Myer has a wonderful range of themed Christmas décor for your home, including the classic red and green, the lavishly luxe look with their white, silver and champagne colours, a touch of Australiana bushland, and a very merry and bright theme full of adorable gingerbread men, reindeer and candy canes. Myer also has Anthony, this year's charity teddy bear, with $1 from every sale going towards the Myer Community Fund which brings hope to vulnerable women and children this Christmas. DAVID JONES The Christmas decorations at David Jones include classic and traditional ornaments, glamourous pink trimmings, elegant white and gold decorations, and a very cool sea theme with glass jellyfishes and starfishes. David Jones also has a wide range of Nutcrackers, Santa Clauses, and Christmas woodland creatures. David Jones stores are located at Westfield Woden and the Canberra Centre.
TOTALLY COUNTRY You'll find a mix of Old World charm, country cottage, vintage, Victorian, and a touch of the whimsical in the Christmas decorations at Totally Country. There's a gorgeous collection of Santa Clauses and Christmas angels, and I absolutely love the figurine of a standing reindeer dressed in a tartan kilt!
