Where to Have Breakfast at Dee Why Beach

One of my family's favourite weekend pastimes is to go out for breakfast. We like eating dinner out too, but given the choice I think we'd always pick brekky. Our favourite place to have breakfast is down at Dee Why Beach, firstly because it has a local feel and it never gets too crowded; secondly, on a sunny day, the views across to the sparkling ocean can put anyone in a great mood; and finally because there is so much choice. Whether you want a full breakfast, Aussie style Eggs Benedict, a healthy Acai bowl, pancakes with the works or something else, you won't be disappointed.
With that in mind, my pick of the top three places to eat breakfast in Dee Why will hopefully help you narrow down your choices, leaving you to sit down and enjoy a delicious brekkie by the sea.
Stella Blu
I've come back to Stella Blu time and time again for breakfast and I'm never unhappy about the service I get. The wait staff are extremely friendly and attentive – in some restuarants the water might not be poured or we have to wait a long time just for some sauce, but that is not an issue here. They were even great when my husband accidentally knocked his entire cup of coffee into his untouched eggs benedict, replacing it immediately.
The menu choice for breakfast is not vast but covers most bases – pancakes, omelette, Italian sausages and egg, Eggs Benedict and several more. Their signature breakfast dish is the Stella Stack which is Italian sausages, eggs scrambled with prosciutto & basil on toasted ciabatta topped with hollandaise sauce. And there is also steak on the breakfast menu. They have an array of different breads too. Sit inside, or sit outside where you have the choice of shade or full sunshine, from any position you can watch the world go by and the waves rolling onto the beach.
On Shore
They say variety is the spice of life and that about sums up having breakfast at On Shore Café Brasserie. They have a wide ranging brekky menu arranged into Light or Hot subsections – there are "hot" dishes in the Light section, so it seems Hot really means – bigger, fuller, not-so-light breakfasts. There are two different pancake dishes, waffles, and a variety of toasts and breads in the Light section. Meanwhile, in the Hot dishes you can pick from French toast, eggs on toast (in varying forms) and jumbo breakfast (the works) to name a few.
One of the advantages of having breakfast at On Shore that is not prevalent at some venues, is the choice of cold drink options – which is an especially good idea for kids. This cafe is definitely a little more suited to family outings and there are often big groups dining together. It has less seating with visibility of the beach but what it lacks in views, it gains in menu range, serving size (huge) and bang for your buck.
Seachange
First up, if you want to eat breakfast at Seachange (which you should), then you're going to need to get there early – they don't take bookings on the weekend, and it's a very popular choice for kicking the day off. This is a small, cosy and intimate café, but with oodles of character. All the seats have a red, fleecy blanket hanging over the back so no matter the time or year, or the weather, you still feel comfortable. We have actually been here in the pouring rain too, and it just felt cosier still.
So, the petite floor plan of this place definitely adds to that cosiness, but it can make it feel a little crowded in there. Fortunately the food and service take precedence over any spatial concerns. The staff are extremely friendly and make you feel like part of the furniture. To add to that, the menu is original and the servings are vast. There are no less than five omelettes to choose from, several hot vegetarian breakfasts plus lots of variants on usual breakfast favourites. If you fancy something lighter like an Acai bowl or porridge (quinoa or standard) then there is an array of Light breakfast options. Top that off with plenty of drink options – fresh smoothies, juices and all the usual hot drinks – and you'll walk away feeling extremely satisfied.
So, the only question now remains – which breakfast is your pick for this Sunday morning so you can enjoy a view like this?
