Best scones in Victoria?
When we're about in country areas particularly, there is a hankering for good old fashioned homemade scones with jam and cream. Perhaps it stems back to our Britishness, or simply our childhood but nothing can hit the spot sometimes, better than the humble scone.

Having scones, or a devonshire tea is not just about the scones now it is? It's about the whole experience; the country hospitality, the fresh or clotted cream and quality of condiments and of course how fluffy and fresh the scones are.
What makes the best scones? Accompaniments, ambience, freshness?

Here are some contenders we've found:

Pie in the Sky in Olinda is famous for pies, but the scones there are pretty special. In the Dandenong Ranges, surely a perfect setting for scones.

Pennyroyal Raspberry Farm in Murroon is a standout simply because the jams are made from the raspberries picked on site and the scones are so fresh.

Bad Habits Cafe in Daylesford set in the Convent Gardens, has the ambience and service as well as fresh fluffy scones.

So, here's the question - where have you found the best scones in Victoria and why are they the best?

Have to say Aloo - they're my mum's. She makes them with cream instead of butter and they are incredibly moist. But Szalon Mamor in Collingwood (with its fresh made hungarian potato scones) is a close second. j

I can't believe no-one has mentioned "CJ Dennis Singing Gardens Tea Rooms" in Toolangi, up in the hills. It withstood the horrendous bushfires and it has always been worth the drive. Consistently good for years and years and such a beautiful spot. Little walk along the little creek and through the spectacular gardens after your massive and delicious scones is just perfect. I haven't been there for a while so this article refreshed my memory - thank you!! :)

The local farmers market at Essendon the 2nd Saturday of the month or Williamstown, the 2nd Sunday of the month. The savoury scones are my favorite with the date scones a close second. I hang out for these markets for the scones

Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm at Main Ridge supplied me with one of the best devonshire teas i have tasted. The scones were so light and fluffy and the strawberry jam was excellent. You can then go and pick a bucket of strawberries to take home.

The Tea Emporium in Mansfield was yummy but the atmosphere was great too. Huge comfy chairs that you could curl up in like being at home with a Mad Hatters feel and you were welcome to stay as long as you liked.

The scones at Hopetoun tea rooms at collins st, CBD are my favourite, though the waiting line is long and service not too good but scones are great.
