A sad truth is that not every day off will be sunny. Sometimes the rain comes down, and lots of activities become closed off. But still, there are a huge number of great rainy day activities around Brisbane, and here are some of the best.

A visit to your local cafe
Read in a local cafe with a nice warming beverage
While it can seem like you don't even want to open the front door, making it down to your local cafe is a thoroughly worthwhile journey. I tend to geek out and sit down with a good book and a nice warm drink, and occasionally just take the time out to watch the rain come down. If you want to be more social, invite a friend out and take it as a good opportunity to catch up.

Ice Skating
It's not an activity people think about enough, but Ice Skating is incredibly fun. With Rinks findable both above and below Brisbane, this is a great way to keep entertained. Ice World has a rink in both Acacia Ridge and one in Boondall.

Rollerblading
If you're not a fan of the cold, you could instead try Stafford Skate Centre instead, which is rollerskating or rollerblading indoors out at Stafford

Visiting your local (indoor) pool
It might sound crazy, but your local indoor pool is one of the best places to be when it's raining. The water is heated year-round so it's just as pleasant in the water as it is in mid-summer, and almost nobody else will be here. It's a chance to swim laps at whatever pace suits you in nearly empty lanes, or to paddle with your kids in the kiddie pool with all the space (probably) to yourselves.

Trampolining!
Skyzone trampoline parks have been opening up all around Australia and one has opened up in Macgregor too, to satisfy the Brisbane audience. This is a great place for a rainy day, with a massive trampoline spread as well as laser tag, providing a great range of fun.

Indoor Rock Climbing
A favourite of mine, getting the chance to literally climb the walls is well worth it, and if you haven't tried it before. There are three different centres around Brisbane, and honestly, which one you go to likely depends entirely on your own location. Urban Climb sits in West End. Crank Climbing is in MacGregor, and also offers a Parkour range if you want to try something a little bit more fast paced. Rock Sports are across the river in Fortitude Valley, and is the most traditional of the Rock Climbing venues.

For those more interested in something quiet, then I recommend getting back to Brisbane's cultural locations.

More Artistically
QAGOMA is the wonderful abbreviation for the Queensland Art Gallery, and Gallery of Modern Art (which mysteriously loses a G in abbreviation). The gallery itself is spectacular, and we often forget how much delight can be had wandering a gallery in our own city, even if we would take the opportunity when oversees. A rainy day then is your chance to revisit this.

Otherwise looking up The Brisbane Powerhouse to see what events they have going on is a fantastic way to find something going on.

With all these options, you can see there is plenty to do even on a rainy day. So what do you like to do when your weekend is rained out?
