Don't let tourists have all the fun
Sometimes locals can get a bit complacent about the "tourist" hot spots in their city. It can take overseas or out of town visitors to get us to take part in activities that we would have otherwise given a miss. The Wheel of Brisbane, at the Southbank Parklands, is one of those activities that is more crowded with tourists than locals. But after taking some visitors for a spin, I'm really glad I did it.
The Wheel of Brisbane takes you almost 60 metres high which provides stunning 360 degree views of the City, Brisbane River and the Southbank Parklands. The gondolas are comfortable and airconditioned. I was a little nervous taking my young son up but you are fully enclosed and very safe.
On the average day the lines are short and you do not have to pre-book for tickets. You and your guests have your picture taken prior to entering the gondola. There is a computer generated gondola that surrounds you in the souvenir shots which are cheesy and overpriced but I admit I bought one anyway.
