South Korean Drama, What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim (2018), starring Park Seo-joon and Park Min-young, is based on the novel of the same title by Jung Kyung-yoon which was first published in 2013. In 2015, KakaoPage made it into a webtoon comic.

What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim is about Kim Mi-so (played by Park Min-young), secretary for a vice-chairman of a major corporation. Kim Mi-so has been a secretary of Lee Young-joon (played by Park Seo-joon) for 9 years and one day she decided to quit her job to pursue what she dreams of in her life. Being secretary of this executive leads her to nothing but work. Lee Young-joon depends on his secretary, not only for work but also for his things such as choosing a tie for work .(It reminded me of Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock’s Two Weeks Notice).

Lee Young-joon can’t let Kim Mi-so go as he has gotten used to getting help from his secretary for years. Throughout the journey to make Kim Mi-so stay by his side, Lee Young-joon plans things to make her change her mind. Kim Mi-so then finds the real love of Lee Young-joon. Behind this super possessive, narcissistic man, there is someone who cares for Kim Mi-so.

When Kim Mi-so is just 5 years old and Lee Young-joon is just 9 years old, they randomly get abducted by a woman that has a personality disorder. The woman at the end decided to hang herself in front of these children, but Lee Young-joon said to little Kim Mi-so that it was just a big spider hanging from the ceiling. Since then Kim Mi-so has feared spiders. After the woman died, the two children ran away and Kim Mi-so managed to get back home safely. After that incident, the two kids were parted until one day Kim Mi-so turned up again at Lee Young-joon family business as an intern. Knowing he found the little girl who was with him through a difficult situation more than 10 years ago, Lee Young-joon hired Kim Mi-so as his secretary. Kim Mi-so didn't recognise that Lee Young-joon was the boy who kept her safe during the abduction time.

Without realising it, Lee Young-joon always helped Kim Mi-so and stayed by her side for 9 years. But for Kim Mi-so, her boss is very demanding and never lets her go even during her off-work. Even when Lee Young-joon met Kim Mi-so’s sisters, they demanded Kim Mi-so to quit her job as soon as possible as they couldn't stand her boss. Slowly, Kim Mi-so can see the real Lee Young-joon and she falls in love with Lee Young-joon as they heal each other of their past traumatic experiences.

There are lots of funny scenes in this drama particularly Lee Young-joon who tries to win Kim Mi-so but has no clue about what a relationship is. Some of the scenes look like a scene on the Mr Bean comedy series, especially when Kim Mi-so and Lee Young-joon are on a roller coaster at an amusement park.

What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim is a very light comedy romance. Even though it's a good-binge watch-worthy TV series, I think these 16 episodes of drama can be wrapped up a little bit quicker as it seems they tried to make it a bit longer unnecessarily. Park Seo-joon and Park Min-young's kissing scene in this drama got lots of likes and the most searches on the internet. What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim can be watched on streaming platforms.
