Most shopping centres have shops catering for all budgets, but where do you go if you are intent on bargain-hunting?

I'll admit that my shopping centre of choice, Chadstone , is not renowned for being affordable - although window shopping doesn't cost a cent if you can restrain yourself from making purchases. When I need a cheap and chic outfit, I always get straight on the bus to Southland . With plenty of small independent retailers, there are often bargains to be had. There are also chain-stores such as Valleygirl and Tightrope , where cute dresses or tops can be bought for less than you'd pay for lunch. But, being a large shopping centre, there is the temptation to try pricier stores. This could lead to situations where you end up with a $100 dress when you'd only planned to spend a quarter of that.

Maybe it is one of the quieter shopping centres which offer the most value in their independent shops. Local malls such as Parkmore and Forest Hill are little known, except to those residing nearby, and stores may need to be competitive in their pricing for this reason.

Or perhaps you head straight to one of the DFO centres when you want trends on the cheap? They market themselves as being bargain hubs, but do retailers in mainstream malls offer the same savings?

Leave a comment and let me know where your best bargains come from.
