What's So Great About Summer?

Every time we get into winter all I can think is that I'd like it to last forever. All the things that bother me in summer are gone; almost no sweating, mosquitoes or sunburn at all, no tan lines or teenagers wearing less fabric than I would have in a scarf. I get to wear sweaters and my quite possibly excessive collection of boots.

I love going to the beach in winter. There are fewer kids running around screaming, it's easier to avoid sunburn and much less blinding glare.

Soft light.

I love winter, it's cuddle weather and it's perfect weather for hot juicy meals. Big heavy burgers, thick hearty soups, pastas, lasagnas, everything that's glorious. It's weather for adventuring and weather for relaxing.

I'm curious whether anyone can give convincing argument for summer. Tell me, is there anything you can't do in winter? Anything that's cancelled or goes into hibernation that's worth looking forward to?

We have our BBQs on wood fires in winter as we can't do this in summer due to bushfire risk. There is nothing like huddling around the fire in warm coat and gloves eating grilled sausages and baked potatoes. And I love going out on brisk sunny autumn/winter days. I do enjoy the lighter evenings and longer days of summer - (you can't get them in Winter) but that is the only thing I miss about summer.

No barbecues in winter. Although with the summers we have, we get very few any time of the year.

I love sitting outside on a warm summer's evening sipping a chilled glass of white wine. However, I do love a snowball fight in the winter!

For me, it's definitely the beach...especially at Cottesloe just as the sun is rising and the crowds haven't descended. Although the heat of a Perth summer is horrible, a few hours spent like this is pure bliss and keeps me sane the rest of the day.

It isn't Winter!! Melbn is freezingly cold with strong, nasty winds blowing instraight off the Antarctic. Being only 3 feet above sea level (at Flinders St, station), we are close to very cold water, too.
