While searching for a parking space I came across this quirky little street in downtown Nambour. More of a Lane really, there are only a dozen or so shops but what is there, is delightful.
NEW CREATIONS
On one side of the road is a scrapbooking shop which has a huge range of supplies as well as holding workshops. It also stocks vintage clothes, crockery and other bits and pieces.
The other side of the street has two cafes, a barber, a beauty centre , a jeweler, a pet shop, a florist, an ice cream parlour, two clothes shops and a community art space.
HUSK and HONEY
This cafe is interesting in that it is grain-free. When chatting with the owner, Johnny, I said it must be challenging to fill a menu with grain-free offerings. He explained that not all cultures are as grain-based as in western society and that they draw their inspiration from all over the world. Middle Eastern recipes, in particular, are appropriate.
Johnny and Tash have owned the cafe for 10 years, so have had time to perfect their art. Originally from the UK, Johnny had a cafe and Tash worked at Jamie Oliver's '15'. After coming to Australia, they grew spray free herbs and greens before getting re-involved in hospitality. I ordered mushrooms on toast and wondered how you can have grain-free toast? You can! It's made from almond meal and it tasted just fine. All food is made fresh on the premises.
The cafe has a vintage vibe. I just loved the walls covered in vintage stories and cartoons.
Art Space
Create, teach or display your work here. The wonderful space has earrings and artwork and the most beautiful hand-carved spoons for sale
I was particularly intrigued by the notice saying bring in your old jewellery to swap and refashion. Dig out all those bits in the bottom of the drawer and take them along on Wednesday nights. Cost $5. Call Tara on 0423 312 498
WILGA
Next door to the art space is a pop-up shop called Wilga. This is full of beautiful clothing all made by the sister of the young woman running the art space.
SPRINKLES
The ice cream and pancake parlour is a bright colourful spot to enjoy pancakes and icecream. Take time to treat yourself to a delicious snack.
Outside a tree has been yarn bombed by the Pomona Pixie.
It was here that I learned about the Nambour Art Trail.
LUIS FERRO Jeweler
If you didn't manage to refashion your jewellery at the Art Space, you can pop into the jewellers and get a quote to get them professionally repaired.
Nambour is an easy drive from anywhere on the Sunshine Coast or from Brisbane. Give it a go.
