The exhibition commemorates Olley's remarkable life and achievements and gives visitors the opportunity to understand Olley the artist, the world traveller, the friend, the muse and the philanthropist. With a dynamic collection of work covering her extraordinary career, the exhibition includes one of her earliest paintings, a still life that Olley did at high school when she was just 15 years old, through to one of her last works that was painted in the final year of her life, aged 88 years. Each year the hinterland town plays host to its anticipated Midwinter Shakespeare Festival, a moving feast of theatre and dining hosted by the local Shepherd's Purse Theatre Troupe. Held in memory of photographer Olive Cotton and funded by Olive Cotton's family, the Award began in 2005 and attracts a high standard of works from emerging and established photographers, with the winning work acquired for the Tweed Regional Gallery's collection. Social Fabric at Tweed Regional Museum - Until 15 JulyThe Tweed Regional Museum is the keeping place for much of the region's rich and evocative history and culture, with permanent and changing exhibitions. Don't miss the latest showcase of the Tweed's fascinating stories with the Social Fabric exhibition that displays never before seen garments from the Museum's collection. From drag queen gowns and mermaid costumes to military uniforms and lacy corsets, each piece tells a surprising and unexpected story about the social history of fashion and dressmaking in the Tweed. This interactive showcase invites you to touch, try on, learn or reminisce, with vintage pieces from the 1940s through to the 1990s.
