What's On in Adelaide – February 2020

Summer is in full swing and festival season is finally here in Adelaide. The Fringe Festival kicks off on the 15th and the Superloop 500 takes over the eastern side of the city. There's markets and outdoor cinema events all over town and the country show season starts again with the Angaston Show.

Cellar Door Festival 2020 - Friday 7th - Sunday 9th - Adelaide Convention Centre


Cellar Door Festival brings together the best of South Australia's wineries, breweries, distilleries and food producers all under one roof in the heart of the city and officially turns 10 in 2020.

Featuring long table dining experiences with guest chefs like Adam Liaw, Callum Hann and Jessie Spiby from MasterChef and a long lunch with wines by Hentley Farm, this Cellar Door Festival promises to be a tantalising treat for lovers of fine food and wine. Laneway Festival - Friday 7th -Harts Mill


Now famous for its cutting edge line-up of leading new and essential artists, this year's line-up includes Tones and I and international stars like Charlie XCX, alongside other acts from around the world. Beautiful locations, great layouts and eclectic crowds set Laneway Festival apart from the others. Laneway Festival Adelaide 2020 is at the iconic Harts Mill by the Port River. Chilli Fest Willunga - Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th - Willunga Recreation Park


A celebration of all thing's chilli in one of Australia's finest food and wine regions. Join this community celebration and enjoy Willunga in all its market glory. R ead more here .

FRINGE FESTIVAL 2020 - 14th February - 15th March

The Fringe Festival began in 1960 as an add on to the Festival of Arts. Since then, it's grown from local biennial festival into a major international festival and is held every year. Adelaide is at its busiest during the Fringe Festival and it's a great time to explore the city.

Street Art Explosion - Anytime


There's more and more street art around Adelaide every year and Fringe season is a great time to explore. Download a map here and guide yourself around Adelaide's laneways to check out some amazing art.

Giant Singalong - During Fringe from 12 pm - 7 pm at Lot Fourteen, corner of North Terrace and Frome Rd.


It's what it says it is. Presented by Daily tous les jours, this giant interactive installation is a field of microphones. They're just waiting for you and a few hundred of your closest friends to belt out a few hits karaoke-style with words on the big screen.

Yabarra Dreaming In Light - open all Fringe Festival - Tandanya


This year the popular immersive dreaming track will be indoors at Tandanya. Cutting edge light and illumination techniques will guide visitors through a dreaming experience of country and tradition.

Tindo Utpurndee - Friday 14 February, 8:15pm - Rymill Park / Mullawirraburka


Tindo Utpurndee or 'Sunset Ceremony', is a celebration of Aboriginal culture which will officially open the Fringe Festival. It's a well respected and moving opening event, now in Rymill Park.

RCC Fringe - University of Adelaide


The festival within a festival sets up at University of Adelaide again in 2020 and there'll be heaps of live music, theatre, art and food spread around the beautiful spaces of the university. The Cloisters will be transformed into an open-air food hall while the Maths Lawns become the late-night concert venue 'UTOPIA'. Heaps of local bands and artists perform on the RCC main stage while the re-incarnated Neon Forest sees plenty of DJ sets. There's heaps to see and do at RCC Fringe across the whole campus. Garden of Unearthly Delights


The garden takes over the east parklands from 14th February to the 15th March. Locals know it as simply 'The Garden' and it's become the main venue hub for the Fringe. It has a bustling carnival-style atmosphere and is popular with families although longer hours apply for over 18's. Check the details here .

Gluttony


Fringe venue hub Gluttony has grown to encompass two sites over the years. One across from 'The Garden' and now into the Masonic Lodge on North Terrace. There's plenty to see and do before or after one of the many shows held inside. Details here .

Superloop 500 - Thursday 20th - Sunday 23rd - Victoria Park


Australia's greatest carnival of motorsports rolls into town and takes over Victoria Park and surrounds. It's not only the racing that grips Adelaide but also the great series of concerts including Grinspoon, Sneaky Sound System, The Superjesus, Pete Murray, Sheppard and local lads the Hilltop Hoods. The Moseley Beach Club - Glenelg Beach


Now well established, this lounge club on Glenelg Beach is designed along the lines of luxury beach clubs in Europe and Asia. Book a daybed online and enjoy sunny summer days and nights being served food and wine in style! Entry is free if you'd just like to check it out but you may not get a seat. Read more here .

Giant Ferris Wheel – Moseley Square


This huge Ferris wheel is right on the foreshore in between Moseley Square and the jetty. The Giant Ferris Wheel is open from 9.30 am until 10 pm every day. Tickets: $10. Details here .

Writers Week - Saturday 29th - 5th March - Pioneer Women's Memorial Gardens


Writers' Week 2020 will ponder something that intrigues us all: Being Human. The packed program is thoughtful and interesting for readers and writers alike. There's a special weekend for young readers, , along with an eclectic line-up of speakers and performances all week. This is a highly recommended part of the Adelaide Festival that has grown into a force in it's own right and most of it is free. Check it out here .

Relay for Life - Saturday 29th at 2pm until 9 am Sunday, March 1st - Adelaide Showground


Thousands of Australians will be taking part in the Cancer Council's Relay For Life this year to help in the fight against cancers. The relay is great fun and suited to everyone! Why not start or join a team in the Adelaide Central 2020 Relay on Saturday 29th February at the Adelaide Showgrounds?

Angaston Show - Saturday 29th - Angaston Recreation Park


Head up to the top of the Barossa Valley for the first of the country shows for 2020. Read more here .

OUTDOOR CINEMA


Even though summer is fast coming to a close there are still some outdoor cinema experiences to be had around Adelaide this February. Check these out if you're nearby!

1. Thorndon Park Movies in the Park 2020 will feature Jumanji (1995 version, PG) on Saturday 29 February 2020. There'll be onsite activities from 6 pm, with the film screening at sundown. It's completely free.
2. Klemzig Cinema in the Park – The classic The Lion King plays at Klemzig Reserve on Friday 21st with activities commencing from 6 pm. 21/02/2020 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm. Again, this is a free event.
3. The free family-friendly outdoor movies at Glenunga Hub will be playing Ralph Breaks the internet on Saturday the 8th.
4. Moonlight Cinema - An Adelaide classic with a wide range of movies in beautiful Botanic Park. It's on nightly except Mondays until Feb 16th. Buy tickets here .

MARKETS

Christies Beach Markets - Friday 28th


Rotary Park at the end of Beach Road at Christies Beach is just metres from the beach and is the perfect grassy venue for a summer afternoon by the sea. This February, you can bring the family down to Rotary Park for a night featuring live entertainment, bouncy castles and face painting for the kids.

Glenelg Sunset Markets - Sunday 9th – Glenelg Beachfront near Moseley Square


Adelaide's best beachside market is back for February with plenty of handmade artisan bargains and things to see and try under a balmy summer sunset. Click here for details .

Ebenezer Night Markets - Every Saturday night in February


The Fringe Festival brings thousands of people to the East End and it's a perfect time to browse for a quirky little something at these markets just off Rundle Street. Read more here .
