As we move into 2021, the
State Library of South Australia is getting into full swing with a range of new and exciting exhibitions and events coming up.
South Australia Illustrated
The Art of George French Angas
This fantastic exhibition displaying the work of celebrated artist George French Angas will continue to show on the Treasures Wall from 10 am to 4 pm Monday to Saturday (closed Sundays and public holidays) through until late February.
Born in 1822, George French Angas is the eldest son of George Fife Angas (after whom Angaston was named. After arriving in Adelaide in 1844, George undertook journeys to the Murray Lakes, Barossa Valley, Fleurieu Peninsula and the South East, capturing impressions of the landscapes, inhabitants, flora and fauna in the young colony of South Australia.
After returning to London, he publishing his book South Australia Illustrated as a snapshot of South Australia.
Entry is free.
Behind the Lines
The year's best political cartoons 2019
Join the Museum of Australian Democracy and see the politics of 2019 in its best musical depiction. From the federal election to the dramas of Brexit, 30 of Australia's best political cartoonists share 87 cartoons depicting politicians as musicians belting out old time favourites and maybe just a few new tunes.
This travelling exhibition is on display in the State Library Gallery Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 3.45 pm until 21 February 2021. Closed Sunday and public holidays. Entry is free.
A Tuesday Talk: Books in My Life
David Donaldson
Coming from a family that never went to the cinema and resisted entering the world of radio, David Donaldson is a New South Wales country boy who fell into film while studying at Sydney University.
Influenced by HW Arndt and John Anderson, and enlightened by Roger Manvell, he became the inaugural director of the Sydney Film Festival. David eventually came to South Australia and held offices in a large number of societies and associations dedicated to film.
Join David in the Hetzel Lecture Theatre, Institute Building (Ground Floor) on Tuesday 2 February 2021 from 11 am to 12 pm to discuss the books in his life.
Entry is free, however,
bookings are essential .
Researching Your Locality
Many of us are interested in the history of our locations and this is particularly so for historians and family historians. Researching locational history tells us an incredible amount about the lives of our ancestors and the homes where we now live.
Join Carolyn Spooner on Tuesday 16 February 2021 from 11 am to 12 pm in the Hetzel Lecture Theatre, Institute Building (Ground Floor) and gain an insight into the vast array of library resources available for research.
The Family History Collection contain the Sands and MacDougall postal directories which provide the name and sometimes occupation of householders in suburban Adelaide.
The Map Collection holds early town plans and hundreds of maps of country areas. The Archival Collection is a series of property valuations and house plans submitted by Bullock & Wilkinson to the State Bank. There are so many resources, you never know what you may find.

You can add a full range of material such as townscapes, rural communities information, travel, working and studying at homes, leisure and fitness activities, food supply, holidays and events and medical services. See the website for a range of ideas and how to upload your story contributions.
Find your way to the State Library by public transport or park in nearby Wilson's Adelaide Central car park, 225 North Terrace, Adelaide.
The State Library has wheelchair and stroller access to the Spence Wing and Mortlock Chamber via the lift in the glass foyer entrance. On-street disabled parking is available in nearby roads.
Enjoy a break at St Raphael located on the ground floor in the glass foyer, open 7.30 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday.
