In these times, we are spending more time at home. Why not clean out some drawers that are filled with kitchen things. I did and was surprised at what I found.

Apart from several frequently used items, I found many 'must-have' items that seemed a good idea at the time.

Teabag squeezer. I would use three or four tea bags a day and often manage to drip tea between cup and bin. I forgot I had the squeezer, in fact, it was still in its box. It is now in almost constant use.

Lemon & lime squeezer. This was quite expensive, but I have hardly ever used it. A hand is always on hand to squeeze a lemon and handier than finding the squeezer.

Rotary cheese grater. Why I purchased this, I have no idea as we had a perfectly good normal grater and easier to use.

Digging deeper into my drawers, I found a tea strainer. I'm sure we have a teapot in the back of some cupboard. Might be hard to find loose tea.

Mortar and pestle. Used to grind nuts and other things into powder or very fine particles. I think I have used it twice.

Egg rings used to be very popular to cook your eggs in a neat looking and compact way. Can't remember ever using these.

Cherry pitter. I must admit I have used this thing a few times. My success in de-pitting cherries indicates that this is an entry-level device.

"The latest thing in vegetable peelers." This was the spiel of the vendor of these things many years ago in the Victoria Market while demonstrating it. He could use it, but I couldn't.

Melon scoops. Very handy for cocktails, which I don't drink, so have never used them.

Apple corer. I have used this device many times, but have yet to master the technique. It is very hard to push it vertically through an apple. I'm sure it can be done.

Apart from the aforementioned items, I found seven wooden spoons, 16 plastic measuring spoons and four can openers, not to mention the six pairs of tongs, admittedly four different sizes.

Despite the clean-up, the only thing I threw away were several plastic knives and forks. Into the recycling bin of course.

One drawer down, only six more to go, not to mention ten clothing draws.
