Be open to any job Jobs aren't in abundance in South Australia. If you haven't got a job lined up already, be aware that you might have to just take what you can get.
We will probably diss your hometown
South Australians like to brag about South Australia. You can expect that as soon as you mention where you're from, somebody will make a snide comment or comparison to Adelaide. Especially if you are from Victoria.
It's not all about the city Unlike many other capitals around Australia, our best assets aren't just located in the city. If you really want to get the most out of South Australia, get exploring in Greater Adelaide.
Expect to spend less money.. and more money The living cost in Adelaide is lower than almost every other capital city. That means cheaper food and cheaper homes. However, don't think this money will be heading straight to your savings. Being in Adelaide means that petrol prices are usually high (or fluctuating at unpredictable rates), and flights out of the country are more expensive. Some of our council rates and electricity bills are also greater than other cities.
There's a different kind of nightlife Although you can find some 'typical clubs' down Hindley Street, the best of Adelaide's nightlife is quite a different scene to other states. Here, we appreciate good live music, and friendly community vibes.
Something is happening all the time There is always a festival or event of some sort taking place. We just love good entertainment. Check out this webpage to see what's going on in Adelaide this week.
The seasons are insane Be prepared with clothing for all seasons. Our epic Summers can hit temperatures of over 40 degrees for multiple consecutive days. Our Winters can scrape to minus temperatures. Our Springs and Autumns are a roller coaster in between. And that's not all. Sometimes you'll get Winter weather in Summer, and Summer weather in Winter.
You're gonna love it.
Adelaide will be a whole new ball game compared to anywhere else you've lived. But if you embrace it, you'll love it.
