Any excuse to celebrate romance is a good excuse. That's part of the reason Valentine's Day has become so popular. But Valentine's Day doesn't have to be the hole in your wallet or the headache coming up. If the truth be told, most people would simply like our partner to write something nice about us. Although, couples say nice things, writing it down somehow makes it more special.

Coming up with things to say may feel like a chore, but when those fancy cards are opened and laden with sweet nothings scrawled with love, they rarely fail to extract an appreciative smile.

Spending a few dollars and taking five minutes out of your day to write how you feel about your loved one is something for them to look forward to every year. There are no rules that say a card must be accompanied by flowers, chocolates or other presents, no matter what your beloved says. A Valentine's Day Card is a treasure in itself.

There are some things that are far more valuable and worthwhile than gifts, and that is spending quality pleasurable time together. Whether money is spent or not is optional. To celebrate your romance on a budget, choose a lavish romantic meal from the internet or cookbooks. Spend the evening in and cook together with good music, candles and a wine to suit the meal. Optional extras might include a romantic comedy to watch afterwards, and getting cosy on the couch.

Another Valentine's Day on a budget option is to pack a delicious picnic, blanket and bottle of wine and head to the beach or a nearby park for lunch or an early dinner.

Of course some of us like to offload just a little cash, but don't want to spend time planning elaborate schemes. It can be as simply as going online and booking a Gold Class Cinema ticket with dinner. Cinemas around the country usually offer a special package deal for Valentine's Day which includes, bubbly, a rose, a romantic comedy film and a 3 course dinner served to your recliner - thank you very much.

For those who want to spend a little more, there are gorgeous romantic restaurants around Australia like Allure on Currumbin , which offer a ready made romantic ambiance and beautifully presented dinners. Many restaurants served a special Valentine's Day dinner to indulge in and also decorate the restaurant accordingly. Call the restaurant you fancy and check what they have happening for Valentine's Day.

Just remember the most important thing a person can do to celebrate their romance on Valentine's Day is to show their partner love and attention.

Finally, for those who are single on Valentine's Day, it is time to spoil yourself a little. Book in for a foot massage ( you deserve it) and pedicure. Pick up a great DVD on the way home. Light the oil burner and fill it with beautiful essential oils. Order in from your favorite restaurant, make sure you get dessert and settle in for the evening.
Happy Valentine's Day to you all.
