Byron Bay was on my bucket list, and so when Jaq my cousin invited me to come along on a quick trip, I jumped on board.

I love the beach, so I just have to share our fabulous weekend with you all at Byron Bay.

I picked my American/Kiwi cousin from the airport early Saturday morning and headed down the Coast enjoying the clear skies, warm sun and vast seascapes, laying it on for my American counterpart. We stopped for a refresher at a little Ccafé at Colangatta with great views of the Coral Sea.

We arrived at Byron in the afternoon and took the time to take some photos from off the top of the hill before descending into the valley.

Cape Byron is the Easternmost point on the Australian Coast line and named by Captain Cook after Captain John Byron circumnavigator of the world and grandfather of the poet, Lord Byron, The local aboriginal name for the area is Cavvanbah. Meaning, meeting place.

We checked into the friendly 'Hibiscus Motel' , situated on 33 Lawson Street. The Hibiscus is only 200 metres from the beach esplanade and just one block away from Byron's popular shops, cafes and nightlife.

We had a quick look around the town and felt a little disappointed by what we saw, there being no markets or festivals - however we brought a bottle of wine and we were soon down at Main Beach enjoying a quick dip. We walked the long golden sand of the 'Main Beach',' Clarks Beach' then to the platform at 'The Pass'.

As we walked along in the orange gleaming light of late afternoon we were accompanied by surfers carrying their long boards. We were looking at some of the longest and most famous waves of Byron and these did not disappoint. Hollow and fast for experienced surfers and turning into spilling for the beginner.

We arrived back at the Motel freshened up and decided to taste some of the culinary delights offered in the busy downtown Byron. We dined at a busy Thai restaurant in among locals and their dogs, tourists and family groups. We were enchanted by the night life with a band playing on the street and little walkways dotted with fairy lights.

Early the next morning, we visited the Byron Bay Light House and walked the headland walk down to the Easternmost point. We encountered Bush wallabies, who posed like pros for a photo shoot.

On the way back. we stopped at the Byron Beach Café for breakfast. The staff were attentive and soon had us sitting out on the desired deck overlooking Clarks Beach. The staff were chatty, relaxed and personable and they had our plates whisked away and our coffee in front of us in no time.

They offered healthy food choices at a reasonable price and large serves. I ordered a fruit platter with Greek yoghurt.

We rated this place highly and totally recommend this place for a "must eat" at Byron.

We went for a last swim at Main Beach and checked out of The Hibiscus Motel.

We checked out Paul Hogan's old Hotel on the way back up the coast and left Byron with an unspoken promise to return and discover some more of its secrets.
