4 Things To Do for the October Long Weekend

Labour Day is the first public holiday that we've had since June and the last one we will have until Christmas - so it is your obligatory right to make the most of it! With only a couple of weeks until the long weekend (Saturday 1st Oct - Monday 3rd Oct), it's important that you plan now to ensure you won't end up bored and disappointed. Here are a few ideas to start getting you brainstorming for an enjoyable weekend.
1- Get away
Whether you want to relax or explore, getting away from the house is a great way to do it. You don't need to go interstate to have a great time away. South Australia has a variety of regions that have all you could possibly need. Check out the Fleurieu Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Eyre Peninsula, Clare Valley or Barossa Valley. These areas have everything from interesting historic and cultural elements as well as stunning scenery. There is still a wide range of accommodation available, but you shouldn't sit around much longer as they could get snapped up quick. Go to
Stayz or
Wotif to see what beautiful hotels and homes you can rent out for the few nights.
2- Check out some local events
Perhaps you don't want to go away for the entire weekend, but want to get out and about for a day or two. There are a number of events happening between Friday - Monday, including the: Clare with Fresh Eyre Festival; markets in Stansbury or Flinders Street; Adelaide Corporate Cup; and more. Check out a more comprehensive list
here . But, you don't necessarily need to go to an event to see something new. There is always a cafe or bar or activity that you are yet to experience in Adelaide. Maybe you'll enjoy heading out to a bar on Sunday night knowing that you won't need to be at work the next day!
3- Organise a gathering with friends or family
It doesn't matter if you're a hardcore football enthusiast or haven't watched a game this season. The AFL Grand Final will be on Saturday, October 1st, and is the perfect opportunity to gather with friends. Also, the weather is usually around 20 degrees at the beginning of October so getting outdoors is a great way to enjoy the warming Spring weather. Maybe a picnic at the beach or in a park might be a great idea?
4- Something else?
I love hiking and camping so it's likely that I'll be heading off on a couple of day hikes in some of South Australia's great conservation parks.
Morialta Falls is a favourite of mine in Spring. But, there are so many more ways to spend your long weekend.
