Residents in the Brisbane City Council area are given Wednesday 10th August 2016 the day off as the Show Holiday. The day was designed to encourage people to attend the EKKA, but here are some alternative ways to spend your day off:
Cleveland Crazy Day will feature sales, market stalls, fresh produce, gourmet food and family entertainment for all ages. It will be held from 9am to 2pm. This event is organised by Cleveland Village Traders Association and Cleveland Markets.
Brisbane Racing Club is hosting the Smirnoff Mekka Wednesday at Doomben Racecourse (aged 18 only). It will feature food trucks, pop-up bards, carnival rides, racing and live entertainment. The day usually sells out so book your ticket soon.
Riverlife are presenting Winterfest . This adults-only event includes a hearty winter warmer menu, hot beverage and live entertainment by DJ Cliftonia. Book your tickets online.
Take a drive to one of the neighbouring regional areas which are not having the day off like Logan, Redlands, Lockyer, Moreton Bay, Scenic Rim, Somerset, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coasts. Pack a picnic with a warm drink in a flask.
If you don't mind battling the crowds, then visit the Ekka at the Brisbane Showgrounds. The Royal Queensland Show runs for ten days and is more than just animals, rides and show bags.
How will you be spending your day off?
