So are you 25, yet feel 40? Or are you spry and sparky at 60? Do you balance out things? Do you eat well, get at least 30 minutes exercise every day? Or are you a couch potato?
The Queensland government has launched a website, complete with a quiz to help you determine your health and fitness age. It will assess your lifestyle, nutrition and physical activity level. Then it helps you with suggestions on how to improve your way of life.
Now you don't need to be training for iron man competitions, or looking to make the Olympic beach volleyball team. However, activity keeps you fit, clears out your system, relieves stress. It helps your body pump fresh oxygen in and yes, you will feel better.
Healthy eating keeps your body in tune, replaces nutrients you do burn off when working out, walking or playing tennis. A balance of the things you need to eat in a day can make a big difference. You don't have to be Jamie Oliver or Donna Hay but it doesn't hurt to know the basics.
So how are you? What is your health and fitness age? Are you ready to take the quiz?
The quiz is short. It prompts you to answer the questions based on your activity level, what you have been eating and drinking, did you eat from all the food groups last week? How much did you sit? All these factors and more determine where you are based on the scale.
The website then lets you know how you are doing and offers suggestions on where you can improve.
Now here the choice is up to you. Do you want to live a healthier lifestyle? Do you feel you would like to be more active? Would you like to feel alive at the end of your work day, not like you are walking through the muck? If you intend to take the quiz, the answer is probably yes, your are looking for something to help you make a change.
The website is thorough. Once you take the quiz it goes on to help you, not judge you. Too many of you will judge yourself harshly. Leave that behind and use this tool as a way to start improving something you have already been thinking about doing.
You don't have to implement great sweeping changes but how about a step towards feeling better in some small way?
That is all you have to do. Then you may find you like it and want to continue.
The website is well thought out, has an abundance of assistance. There are pages with recipes, information on nutrition, the 5 food groups that make up a balanced diet and tips for healthier eating and shopping.
There are a series of exercises listed that you can do without putting money out to go to a gym. Or maybe you need to go to a gym to be disciplined. Only you will know that about yourself. Running is a great way to lose weight but is not for everyone.
